The board has given the sports management the okay to reappoint Pontus Jansson as team captain, if they so wish, says chairman Anders Pålsson at a member meeting according to Expressen and TV4 Football Channel.
It was when a prosecution was brought against MFF hooligans last summer that it emerged that Jansson had been involved in a group chat with grossly anti-Semitic content. It later turned out that the MFF player's responses to some messages were taken out of context. The chat content in the preliminary investigation was incomplete, which the prosecutor has said was a big mistake.
Jansson himself was never suspected of a crime, but has said that he should not have been in the group chat.
I feel enormous regret during those weeks and months. I maybe got a bit too much crap for things, but at the same time I put myself in that situation, he said in connection with the securing of the SM gold in October last year.
MFF's regular team captain is Anders Christiansen, but when the Dane has not been available, Pontus Jansson has usually worn the captain's armband.
The next league match for fifth-placed MFF is the restart of Allsvenskan away against league leaders Mjällby on June 30.
