The world's number one in tennis, Jannik Sinner, has been suspended for three months following a positive test for the anabolic steroid clostebol last year.

In the Italian Open tournament on home soil in Rome, the Italian was back, and went all the way.

But there was no victory. The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz won in two straight sets.

The first set was even, and lasted over an hour, before Alcaraz could win with 7–6 (7–5).

The second set was more comfortable for the world number three, and took significantly less time, as Alcaraz won with 6–1 in the game.

I'm super happy to get my first title win, but it won't be my last.

I'm glad to see Jannik at this level, it can't have been easy to go three months without playing and then go to the final here, it's crazy, says Alcaraz after the win.

On the women's side, Italian Jasmine Paolini won.
