Björklund was appointed Sweden's ambassador in Rome 2020 after leaving the party leader post and the Riksdag the year before. Jan Björklund was Minister for Education and later Minister for Education and Research between 2006 and 2014 and Deputy Prime Minister between 2010 and 2014.
New ambassador in Rome becomes Karin Höglund who today has the same assignment in Riga.
