American actor James Van Der Beek was diagnosed with colon and rectal cancer in 2023 and was announced dead on Wednesday. Friends wrote on the GoFundMe site that the cost of treatment had drained the family's savings and that his wife Kimberly Van Der Beek was struggling to stay in their home and pay for the education of their six children.
After two hours, they had raised 1.8 million kronor, and by Wednesday evening they had already raised over 8.9 million. The money will only go towards “the most important living expenses,” according to the text on the fundraising page.
Last year, James Van Der Beek himself sold memorabilia from the series "Dawson's Creek" to pay for his treatment.
