Last round, James Milner equalled former footballer Gareth Barry's record for the number of appearances in the English top flight, 653.

By starting for Brighton on Saturday, the 40-year-old has now surpassed Barry and is the sole record holder with 654 appearances.

Milner played until the 90th minute, when he was substituted after suffering a concussion.

In addition to Brighton, Milner has played for Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League, among others.
