The 22-year-old flew to Munich on Sunday to undergo an operation. According to the prognosis, he is expected to be back at the earliest in November.

In an interview after the match, Bayern's coach Vincent Kompany said he had never been so angry and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer meant that PSG's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma - who collided with Musiala after he had rushed out towards a ball - "took a risk" when he entered the situation.

Now Bayern Munich confirms the injury in a statement.

"This serious injury and the long absence is a real shock for Jamal and all of us. This hits Bayern hard. Everyone knows how incredibly important Jamal is for our game and what a central role he has in our team. It's also a human blow and we all feel for him" says sports manager Max Eberl to the club's website.

Bayern Munich lost the match against PSG with 0-2.
