The former Social Democratic Member of Parliament Jamal El-Haj has formed a new party and also been elected as its chairman.

The Unity Party is registered with the Election Authority, and over the weekend, a kickoff meeting was held at El-Haj's home in Malmö, reports Expressen with reference to Alkompis.

The Unity Party has, among other things, an immigrant-friendly line and believes that "Sweden needs more immigration - not less" to manage welfare.

Jamal El-Haj has been a member of the Riksdag since 2018, but left the Social Democrats last year after Expressen revealed that the politician had tried to influence an asylum case with the Migration Agency. However, he remains a member of the Riksdag - and has been a political wild card ever since.
