Jakob Ingebrigtsen Set to Compete in 5000m World Championship Qualifiers

The doubt is dispelled. Jakob Ingebrigtsen – who today turns 25 years old – intends to try to defend his World Championship gold from two years ago on 5,000 meters. In a few hours, he will compete with Andreas Almgren in the qualifying round.

Ingebrigtsen made up his mind after the morning's training session. On his Instagram account, he gave the green light. He is on the starting line in Tokyo.

After Ingebrigtsen's unexpectedly weak performance in the 1,500 meter heat, it has been uncertain whether he would participate in the 5,000 meter event.

I have been told to register him, so I have done that now. It has gone well here in recent days, so it looks like he will start, says Erlend Slokvik at the Norwegian Athletics Association to NRK.

Ingebrigtsen, Olympic champion in Paris on 5,000 meters, has been hindered by an Achilles tendon injury for several months this season.

The race starts at 13.05.
