On social media, Panahi wrote that "Israel has offended Iran and should be brought to justice in an international court as a war criminal", reports Deadline.
The Iranian director is one of Iran's most award-winning filmmakers, and has been imprisoned in his home country twice. He was forbidden for many years to both leave Iran and to make films at all.
He now writes that Israel's attack does not undo Iran's "four decades of mismanagement, corruption, oppression, tyranny and incompetence". Furthermore, Panahi adds that both regimes should be condemned for their ongoing violence, their warfare and absolute indifference to human dignity.
"Missile attacks, bombardment of residential areas and the deliberate killing of civilians are crimes", says Panahi and urges the UN and the international community to stop the countries from killing more civilians.
"Continued silence and passivity means participating in the crime", writes Panahi.
