The 35-year-old New Jersey goalkeeper was selected for the Four Nations in February, but injured himself a month before and missed the star tournament.
It was sour not to be able to be there. You felt that you had accepted it until the first match began, but when you sat in front of the TV for the premiere, you were really hungry to be there, he says.
Markström has already played a home World Championship and was part of the team that took gold in Globen 2013>"Fine memories"
Then as the second goalkeeper behind Jhonas Enroth.
Best memory?
There are so many, the last time I was on the ice here was when we won gold. The celebration afterwards was also fantastic. There are very fine memories, says Markström after Tre Kronor's initial training in a newly renovated Globen (Avicii arena).
Opportunities to do it again?
I think they are good, that's why you play. We have the pieces that are needed to be good and win, and with the fans' support and home advantage, it's only positive.
"Positive problem"
Many think that Tre Kronor's national team captain Sam Hallam had too much of a hurry to take out the two NHL reinforcements on the goalkeeper side.
With Samuel Ersson, who replaced Markström in Four Nations, and Arvid Söderblom selected, there was only one available goalkeeper spot.
And both Markström and Linus Ullmark and Filip Gustavsson became available after the first round in the Stanley Cup.
The choice fell on Markström.
I'm glad to be here, then the goalkeepers in Four Nations did well, both Ullmark, Gustavsson and Ersson played extremely well, so it's a positive problem for Sam and the team management, says Markström.
