It was on Mattia Furlani's first jump that the accident occurred. On one of the last steps before the board, he stepped through, and the jump was unsuccessful.
After the jump, he grabbed the back of his thigh, grimaced, and then sat down in obvious pain. But it took several minutes before the Italian received medical attention. It stirred up emotions in SVT's commentary booth.
"I can't believe this. I think it's beyond criticism, someone should come running in these situations," says SVT commentator Jacob Hård.
The Italian was unable to complete the qualifying round and left the arena in a wheelchair.
