The German music producer Jack White has passed away, 85 years old. He wrote, among other things, ”Looking for freedom”, which became a huge hit with ”Baywatch” star David Hasselhoff after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

Jack White was one of Germany's biggest hitmakers and produced several top list successes with singer Laura Branigan in the 1980s, including "Gloria" and "Self control".

Before his music career, Jack White, under his real name Horst Nussbaum, was a professional football player in, among others, PSV Eindhoven and Tennis Borussia Berlin in the 1960s and 70s.

His greatest success, Jack White achieved with "Looking for freedom", a song that was written ten years earlier, but became a bigger success when it was picked up by actor David Hasselhoff, the main actor in the TV series "Baywatch".

Hasselhoff released the song in 1988 with perfect timing. Nine months later, the Berlin Wall fell and "Looking for freedom" came to be associated with the East Germans' longing for freedom. David Hasselhoff performed the song at the remains of the wall on New Year's Eve 1989.

Jack White was found dead in his villa on Thursday, according to the police for the German newspaper BZ.
