The second round of Melodifestivalen in Gothenburg will be broadcast on SVT on Saturday. There will be no deviations from the planned running order due to the mass shooting in Örebro, but the production will still find a way to acknowledge the event.
I think, if I may be a bit lofty, that we have a responsibility to create great entertainment that creates shared experiences, so that we get a sense of community in society. Melodifestivalen is at a level where we can do that, but at the same time address what has happened in some way, says Anders Wistbacka.
When Russia invaded Ukraine, it happened during the time of Melodifestivalen 2022, which SVT handled by letting the hosts Oscar Zia and Farah Abadi talk about what had happened a few minutes before the actual program.
They explained calmly and sensibly that it's okay to laugh and be entertained even in difficult times. That's a variant that can be done even in this situation, but we'll see what it becomes. It's not entirely nailed down yet, says Wistbacka.
