Djurgården finished fifth in the league phase and advanced directly to the round of 16. Tolvan Pafos eliminated the Cypriot competitor Omonia in the round of 16 with a 3–2 aggregate score.

If the Allsvenskan team advances, the winner of the meeting between Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Rapid Wien, Austria, awaits in the quarterfinals.

Copenhagen got a tough draw. The Danes will face the English giant club Chelsea, who won the league phase in the third-tier club football tournament.

Djurgården is on the same half of the bracket as Chelsea–Copenhagen. The winner there will meet the winning team in the meeting between Norwegian Molde and Polish Legia Warszawa.

Both Elfsborg and Malmö FF missed advancement from the league phase in the Europa League. Even in that tournament, the round of 16 is drawn, and for example, Spanish Real Sociedad will meet English Manchester United.
