Irish low-cost airline Ryanair Holdings has been fined billions in Italy. The fine will be appealed, according to the company.

According to the country's competition authority, Ryanair has violated competition rules by stopping travel agents from buying travel on the airline's website.

According to the authority, the competition violation is alleged to have taken place at least between April 2023 and April 2025. Ryanair is accused of trying to exclude tour operators who wanted to arrange trips that included other flights and tourist services from third parties.

The fine is set at just over 255 million euros (approximately 2.8 billion SEK).

Ryanair has decided to immediately appeal the decision, according to a statement from the airline.
