Pilato, 20, took World Championship gold on 100 meter breaststroke in Budapest 2022 and in Singapore she got a bronze on 50 meter breaststroke.
In total, she has taken six World Championship medals in long course during her young career.
Now Pilato and Tarantino, 23, are suspended for 90 days by the Italian swimming federation which means they will not be able to participate in the European Championship in short course in Poland in December.
The two stole perfume in a tax-free shop at Singapore's airport and got caught. They were held by the police in Singapore for six days before Italian authorities got them released.
