The latest US tariff threat is 'a mistake,' Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni says. She says she has also expressed her views to President Trump.

"I spoke with Donald Trump a few hours ago and I said what I think," Meloni told reporters in Seoul, where she is visiting.

She has also spoken with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, reports the EFE news agency.

"I think it is important to have a dialogue among ourselves and avoid escalation," Meloni said, adding that she will also talk to European leaders.

Trump announced on Saturday that Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland will be subject to ten percent tariffs as a result of the decision to send military personnel to Greenland.
