The Italian journalist Cecilia Sala has been detained in Iran for over a week, according to the Italian Foreign Ministry. Sala, who works for, among others, the daily newspaper Il Foglio, is believed to be held in the notorious Evin prison in Tehran, according to her other client Chora Media.
The Iranian authorities have not commented on the information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Rome.
Sala was arrested on December 19. She was in Iran to interview, among others, a former commander, a female comedian, and a woman who rejects the country's conservative interpretation of religious values, reports BBC. Italy's ambassador Paola Amadei is said to have been able to visit her in Iranian captivity.
