27-year-old Bakken was found dead in his hotel room in Lavaze, Italy, on Tuesday. He was there to train, including with his close friend Tommaso Giacomel.
"We had planned to go skiing today, but you didn't show up. We had also planned to celebrate New Year's Eve together, but you won't be there. Life has been as tough as it could be for you, who had been stopped (from biathlon) for more than two years. And now this. It's not fair," Giacomel writes.
The 25-year-old Italian writes that what he likes most about biathlon is the people he meets along the way. And Sivert Guttorm Bakken got close to him.
"You quickly became one of my best friends. With your smile, your humanity and your attitude. You will always have a special place in my heart," Giacomel writes.
Bakken's cause of death is not known. This season he made a comeback in the World Cup after having two entire seasons ruined due to heart problems.
