Rob Base, born Robert Ginyard, passed away on Friday after a "private battle with cancer," surrounded by his family. The announcement was also made via the artist's Instagram.
There, the family described him as "a loving father, friend and a creative force whose impact will never be forgotten. Thank you for the music, memories and moments that became the soundtrack to our lives."
Along with DJ EZ Rock - who passed away in 2014 - Rob Base helped bring hip-hop to the mainstream with the ultra-swinging “It Takes Two.” The song had a long life in popular culture and was sampled by many other artists including Seduction, Snoop Dogg, and the Black Eyed Peas.
Rob Base was 59 years old.
