This is what Maksym Ostapenko, head of the Pecherska monastery complex (also known as the “Caves Monastery”) said at a press conference.

The Dormition Cathedral inside the monastery grounds started burning in connection with a Russian attack on Kyiv on Monday night.

In total, the damage to the almost 1,000-year-old monastery complex is estimated to amount to the equivalent of 105 million kronor (500 million hryvnia), according to preliminary calculations.

According to Kyiv, the monastery complex was hit by Russian drones, which Moscow denies.
