Israel’s Joint List backs Gadi Eisenkot to form government after election

Israel's largest Arab party alliance, the Joint List, wants opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot to form a government.

The party alliance will inform President Isaac Herzog of its decision on Thursday and say it wants Eisenkot to form the government.

The Arab parties Joint List and Ra'am advanced in the election. Together, they won 19 seats and could thus play a kingmaker role, since neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's nor Eisenkot's coalition won a majority.
