Kiko Garcia has come to the conclusion that there is only one way to deal with the problems surrounding this year's edition of the Tour of Spain:
The Israel-Premier Tech team, sponsored by the state of Israel, must withdraw.
”Only one solution”
I hope that Israel-Premier Tech themselves make the decision to withdraw from the competition. We as organizers do not have the opportunity to do so, says Garcia according to the Dutch Wielerflits.
There is only one solution and that is for them to realize that their presence is a security risk.
Pro-Palestinian demonstrations have characterized this year's competition and led to several dangerous situations. Wednesday's eleventh stage could not even be completed as planned due to demonstrations in the finish area. Instead, the competition management decided that the stage time would be counted from three kilometers before the finish line, and the stage also became without a winner.
Want to cycle further
On Wednesday, however, Israel-Premier Tech had no plans to withdraw.
”As a professional cycling team, it is our duty to continue competing in the Vuelta a España. Anything else would mean a dangerous precedent for cycling, not just for Israel-Premier Tech, but for all teams”, the team wrote in a statement on Wednesday.
The Tour of Spain continues on Thursday with the twelfth stage, which goes from Laredo – a few miles west of Bilbao – to Los Corrales de Buelna.
