Among the victims are eleven people who were killed in an Israeli attack on a school building in the Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City. The building served as a shelter for refugees in Gaza, according to Gaza's civil defense.

Several of the dead are said to be children and women.

"A number of them were consumed by the fire, and their bodies were found charred", writes civil defense spokesperson Mahmud Basal on the messaging app Telegram.

Several bodies were taken to the morgue at al-Shifa Hospital, where relatives wept over the body of a child wrapped in a white shroud.

We want nothing more than for the war to end, so that we can live like humans in the rest of the world, said Walid al-Najjar, a resident of Khan Yunis, to the news agency AFP.

We are a people who are poor, crushed – our lives are lost, he continued.

The Israeli army says in a statement that it "attacked a gathering of terrorists" who were located in "a command and control center belonging to Hamas and Islamic Jihad".

Since the outbreak of war in October 2023, when Hamas launched a large-scale attack on Israel, it has been reported that more than 51,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza.
