The incident in question, in which an Israeli soldier grabbed and held a cigarette up to the statue's mouth, reportedly took place "several weeks ago."
The soldier who held the cigarette was sentenced to 21 days in military prison, while the one who took the picture was sentenced to 14 days.
This is not the first incident of its kind in recent times. In April, two Israeli soldiers were sentenced to 30 days in military prison for destroying a statue of Jesus in southern Lebanon with a sledgehammer.
