The complaint concerns actions that the soldier is accused of in connection with his service as a sniper in the Gaza War. The police's war crimes unit confirms to TT that the complaint has been filed and that the case is being investigated.
The pro-Palestinian organization Hind Rajab Foundation, which was established in Brussels last year with the aim of "holding perpetrators (in the Gaza War) accountable", is said to be behind the complaint.
As evidence, the organization is said to have submitted, among other things, information gathered from the soldier's own social media, witness statements, and descriptions in newspaper articles and reports from human rights organizations. The soldier is accused in the complaint of war crimes, which Swedish police are obligated to investigate since Sweden applies the principle of universal jurisdiction. This means that Swedish prosecutors can bring charges for war crimes, genocide, or crimes against humanity regardless of when, where, or by whom they were committed.
The Hind Rajab Foundation has reported many Israeli soldiers, primarily to the International Criminal Court (ICC). However, it is unclear whether any of the organization's complaints have led to further action from any court.
