Palestinian activist Awdah Al Hathaleen was shot dead in an Israeli settler attack on the village of Umm al-Khair in the West Bank in July 2025.
The indictment, which was formally filed on Thursday in the Israeli judicial system, is the first of its kind since Israel launched its war on Gaza following the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, according to the Israeli human rights group B'Tselem.
Settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank has increased significantly since then.
"It's a very important decision. I hope it will set a precedent for future cases where (Israelis) commit crimes against Palestinians in Palestine," said Al Hathaleen's lawyer Eitan Peleg.
The West Bank is occupied by Israel.
