Among the injured is at least one child who has been shot, according to the organization. Others are said to have been injured by rubber-coated bullets and tear gas.

Israel's military confirms that they have launched an operation against Ramallah. According to the news agency AFP, the forces were met with stone-throwing when they entered the city on Tuesday morning, allegedly with currency exchange offices as the primary target.

Ever since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out in October 2023, the situation has been tense even on the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967. Israel's military has carried out frequent raids and incursions in cities and refugee camps in northern West Bank. Ramallah, the headquarters of the Palestinian Authority, which leads the limited Palestinian self-government on the West Bank, has however been relatively spared.

Since the outbreak of war in Gaza almost two years ago, more than 970 Palestinians – both civilians and combatants – have been killed on the West Bank, according to a compilation made by AFP. They have been killed both by Israeli forces and by extremist Israeli settlers.

During the same period, at least 36 Israelis, both civilians and soldiers, have been killed in the Israel-occupied area.
