Opposition leaders were summoned on Wednesday morning to coordinate actions and try to get a vote on dissolving the Knesset, reported the Israeli public service channel Kan.

During the morning, opposition leaders announced that a proposal for dissolution is to be presented, reported Haaretz.

Sources within former Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman's party Yisrael Beiteinu told Kan that the party had been firmly decided to present the proposal. However, it is still unclear how much support there is from certain other parties, and consequently whether the proposal will be able to be voted through.

If a vote on the issue does not pass, it must be six months before a new proposal to dissolve the Knesset can be presented, which is said to have made several other parties hesitant to hold the vote now.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition currently holds 68 of 120 seats in parliament.

The ultra-Orthodox parties Shas and Torah Party have announced that they will vote in favor of the measure because Israel has begun calling up ultra-Orthodox men for military service.

If the Knesset is dissolved, it will lead to new elections, Israeli media write.
