The message from Israel's military chief, Zamir, is that Israel will continue to fight battles against Hamas, which it labels terrorist, in Gaza and continue the hunt for individuals responsible for, or involved in, Hamas' terrorist acts on October 7, 2023.
"We continue to act proactively and in accordance with the principle we have established, to eliminate threats and to protect local communities in every situation," says Eyal Zamir, AFP writes.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the statement the night before, on Tuesday, in a video message on social media. Netanyahu said that Israel does not approve of the US-led peace council's proposed Gaza plan, despite the council's clarification that Hamas disarmament is a condition for an Israeli withdrawal.
"We are reviewing this. They sent us a draft - we did not approve it, it is not our draft. We have conveyed our views," he said.
Despite the ceasefire signed between the country and Hamas last year, Israel has carried out several deadly attacks and airstrikes in and against Gaza.
A joint statement on Tuesday from Qatar, Turkey and Egypt condemned Israel's "violations in the Gaza Strip."
