The background was a press conference held before Sunday’s match in Serbia, where an Israeli journalist asked questions about the high-profile incident in which a co-pilot is suspected of trying to crash a plane travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv.
Another journalist accused Irish players of racist abuse of Israeli players. Ireland’s communications director, Kieran Crowley, was so angry that he interrupted the press conference.
Afterwards, Serbian police were also called to the scene after an Israeli journalist was attacked by an Irish press officer.
The two Nations League matches between Israel and Ireland have been played at neutral venues.
