Al-Haddad is identified as the leader of Hamas's terrorist-designated armed wing, the al-Qassam Brigades. It is unclear whether he was killed or injured in the attack.
The attack was carried out on the orders of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, according to an Israeli statement.
Ezzedine al-Haddad is described by Israel as “one of the main architects behind the October 7 massacre.”
