A high-ranking Hezbollah commander in the Shiite militia's Radwan commando force was the target, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
A source close to Hezbollah told AFP that a commander in the Iran-backed group was killed in the attack.
“The Radwan terrorists are responsible for firing at Israeli settlements and injuring IDF soldiers,” Netanyahu said in a statement on social media.
This is the first time attacks have been carried out against the area around Lebanon's capital since the ceasefire began.
