The operation that led to a "precise airstrike" was a collaboration between the military and the Shin Bet intelligence service, the military said in a statement.
Izz ad-Din Beyk was the commander of Hamas's armed wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, in northern Gaza. In his role, he led "the brigade's terrorists and directed them to carry out terrorist attacks" against Israeli soldiers and civilians, according to the Israeli statement.
"In addition, he worked to rebuild the brigade's forces, which had suffered severe damage during the course of the war," the military writes.
Another man was killed in the attack west of Gaza City, according to the Hamas-controlled Civil Defense, while four people were killed in two other separate incidents on Monday.
