The operation took place in cooperation between the military and the Shin Bet intelligence service, the Israeli military said in a statement.
Izz ad-Din Beyk was the commander of Hamas's armed wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, in the northern Gaza Strip. In his role, he led "the brigade's terrorists and directed them to carry out terrorist attacks" against Israeli soldiers and Israeli civilians, according to the Israeli statement.
"In addition, he worked to rebuild the brigade's forces, which had suffered severe damage during the course of the war," the military said.
The man was killed in a "precise airstrike."
