The incident occurred in the northern part of the area. According to a statement from the military, Hamas commanders were planning “terrorist attacks against Israeli soldiers.”
The Israeli military also fired on a Hamas sniper near the so-called Yellow Line, the border of the part of the Gaza Strip that Israel controls, according to a separate statement.
The airstrike occurred in the city of Beit Lahia, according to the Hamas-controlled Civil Defense, which said one person was killed and five were injured, the AFP news agency reports.
The Israeli attack was the first in the Gaza Strip since early August.
