Intensified attacks from Iran-backed Hezbollah across the border from Lebanon to Israel could trigger a serious escalation. This is according to the Israeli military, reports Reuters.
Hezbollah's increased aggression has brought us to the brink of what could become a broader escalation, one that could have devastating consequences for Lebanon and the entire region, says Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli military, in a video statement, according to the news agency.
Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire almost daily since the Gaza war began on 7 October, but the attacks have escalated over the past week.
However, on Sunday, a marked decrease in the number of attacks from Hezbollah was noted, while Israel reported that its military had carried out several airstrikes in southern Lebanon, according to Reuters. The USA and France are working to negotiate an agreement to stop the fighting along Lebanon's southern border. However, Hezbollah has stated that it will not stop its attacks unless Israel ceases its military offensive in Gaza.
