The Israeli army, IDF, has ordered a mass evacuation of civilians from parts of Khan Yunis and Rafah in southern Gaza.
Monday's warning is a sign that Israeli soldiers may soon return to Khan Yunis.
Israel ended an offensive in Khan Yunis – Gaza's second-largest city – earlier this year and withdrew most of its forces. The evacuation order suggests, according to AP, that the terrorist-stamped Hamas has regrouped in the area.
Israel's warning was issued on social media and as an official statement – and came hours after the country reported that a barrage of rockets was fired at Israel from Khan Yunis.
About 20 rockets fired from the area around the city of Khan Yunis were identified. Several were shot down and some fell in southern Israel, said the Israeli military.
No one was injured in the attack and Israeli forces struck the launch site, according to IDF.
The terrorist-stamped Islamic Jihad's armed branch has taken responsibility for the attack.
"We bombed the settlements along the Gaza Strip with missiles in response to the Zionist enemy's crimes against our Palestinian people", said the al-Quds brigades in a statement.
