The Gaza plan, praised by Donald Trump, was announced on Friday. The US president called the deal “a monumental step towards lasting peace and security.”
But Israel opposes the plan. According to Spielman, Hamas has instead been rearming and recruiting forces since the fragile ceasefire began in October.
The action shows that Hamas is preparing for “further massacres like the one on October 7” in 2023, he says, adding that the plan developed by Trump's peace council calls for Gaza to become a terror-free zone.
“That vision stands in direct contrast to the current reality and to Hamas’ stated intentions.”
