Israel's military said in a statement on Monday evening that it had launched a series of "broad strikes" against "terror targets" in Tehran, the second time that day.

Shortly before the announcement, AFP journalists in the Iranian capital reported a loud explosion. Fighter jets were also reportedly heard in connection with it.

In eastern Tehran, several explosions were reported, but it is unclear what was hit.

The state-run Turkish news agency Anatolia reported that a residential building in Tehran was hit in an attack during the day, killing dozens of people. Anatolia said the information came from the state-run Iranian news agency Tasnim and has not been confirmed by independent sources.

Earlier on Monday, Israel stated that it had hit, among other targets, long-range missile launch sites and security headquarters in Isfahan in central Iran.

Iran has responded with drone attacks against Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, among others. Israel has also been hit: in Tel Aviv around noon about ten explosions were reported.
