"We are in the final stages of what is going to be a very, very good deal," Trump told reporters on his way from a basketball game in the NBA finals in New York, according to AFP.
When asked if it would take days or weeks to reach an agreement, he replied that it would take "two or three days."
According to the news channel CNN, Trump has claimed 37 times that a deal with Iran is close.
Flared up
But now the move comes at a sensitive time, as attacks, mainly between Israel and Iran, flared up on Sunday despite a fragile ceasefire. It was only on Monday afternoon, local time in Sweden, after Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and urged the parties on social media to "cease fire" that the attacks subsided.
Both sides warned, however, that they reserve the right to respond if the other resumes attacks. Israel's attacks on Lebanon, mainly targeting the Iran-backed Shiite militia Hezbollah, are particularly sensitive.
But there is no total calm. On Tuesday night, the Israeli military stated that it had intercepted an object in the air that had been launched from Yemen, where the Iran-allied Houthi movement is active.
"No injuries have been reported," the military said, according to AFP, adding that the incident took place in the Eilat area.
Crashed helicopter
In parallel, an American Apache attack helicopter has reportedly crashed near the blocked Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump said the two pilots on board were unharmed.
"The pilots are fine. Yes. No one is injured," he said, according to the AP.
It is unclear why the helicopter crashed.
Meanwhile, in Iran, one of Tehran's airports reopened, according to the Iranian news agency Mehr. It had been closed during the missile exchanges between Israel and Iran.
