"Yes, we're talking to them," Trump said aboard Air Force One, without going into details about how the talks are being conducted.
"I don't think they're ready. But they're getting pretty close," Trump continued.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has previously denied that any talks are being held with the United States.
Elsewhere in the Middle East, attacks have taken place at airports. Five people were injured in a rocket attack on Baghdad airport, Iraqi authorities said.
In Dubai, what is being described as a “drone-related incident” has caused a fire near the city’s international airport. Flights have been temporarily grounded at the airport as a “precautionary measure” to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.
