Israeli fighter jets are reported to have attacked border crossings between Syria and Lebanon.

According to Israel's military (IDF), "weapon and terrorist infrastructure" was attacked, reports the newspaper Haaretz.

"This attack is part of IDF's efforts to stop the transfer of weapons from Syrian territory to Lebanese territory", states a statement.

Israel will not allow Hezbollah to be rebuilt, warns the military.

According to Lebanon's Transport Minister Ali Hamieh, two border crossings towards Syria were hit in the Israeli attacks early on Friday. Both crossings are important for reaching the Syrian province of Homs, where jihadists fighting the regime in Damascus are currently advancing.

On Friday afternoon, Israel announces that it is strengthening its military presence in the occupied Golan Heights in light of the escalation in Syria. Israel tolerates no threats near the country's border with Syria, it is stated.
