Information about the group having received weapons from Israel came from the former Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman.
The Israeli government is providing a group of criminal offenders, who identify with IS, and this on the Prime Minister's (Benjamin Netanyahu) mission, said Lieberman to the public service channel Kan.
He claimed that the former head of the security service Shin Bet was aware of the plans, "but I do not know how many in the military leadership were aware of it".
As far as I know, it did not go through a government decision.
The group in question has, according to Times of Israel, been described as both a militia and a criminal gang. The group has previously been linked to smuggling from Egypt in cooperation with Egyptian jihadist groups, but according to Israeli media, there is no clear connection to IS.
Benjamin Netanyahu says, according to the newspaper Haaretz, that Israel has "mobilized clans in Gaza that oppose Hamas".
What's wrong with that? It's just good, it saves our soldiers' lives, he says and claims that the decision was made after advice from security experts.
That Lieberman, who is a political opponent of Netanyahu, has released the information "only helps Hamas", according to the Prime Minister.
