The Israeli military has repeatedly urged citizens, especially in northern Israel, to seek shelter overnight because of attacks from Iran.
Israel has responded by attacking what it says are infrastructure targets in the Iranian capital Tehran. According to sources speaking to the BBC, several explosions have been heard in the city.
Other countries around the Persian Gulf have also reported attacks. Authorities in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates say they are trying to shoot down missiles. Air raid sirens have sounded in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
