Isak scored in the 36th minute to put Liverpool 1–0 up against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
The goal was his first since December 20, when he scored against Tottenham but was injured in the same incident. The striker suffered a broken leg and made a comeback on April 8 as a substitute away to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
“Incredible striker”
It was also the 26-year-old's first home league goal at Anfield. In September last year, Isak broke the British transfer record when Liverpool bought the Swede from Newcastle for almost 1.7 billion kronor.
Did anyone think eight or nine months ago that we would say: at the end of April Alexander Isak would score his first league goal for Liverpool at Anfield? said coach Arne Slot according to the BBC.
"That sums up this season pretty well - that an incredible striker has been injured for so long," the Dutchman continues.
Isak has scored three goals in 13 Premier League games this season, taking his total to four goals in 21 games for Liverpool.
"It's really fun that he scored, because when we signed him we knew he could score," says Slot.
No proper pre-season
The blue-and-yellow national team star refused to train and play with Newcastle during the summer of last year. He therefore did not have a proper pre-season and missed several matches in the fall due to injuries.
Against Crystal Palace, Isak played 79 minutes. Andy Robertson made it 2–0 shortly before the end of the first half. In the 71st minute, Daniel Muñoz reduced the deficit for Crystal Palace, but in added time Florian Wirtz made it 3–1.
Reigning champions Liverpool are fourth in the table and have four games left to play.
