Alexander Isak had much of his debut season with Liverpool ruined by injuries. But the Swedish international striker is now fit, and he started when they faced Monaco at home at Anfield.
Isak rewarded the team's faith by making it 1-0 after 15 minutes in the match that Liverpool lost 3-2.
The other big Swedish star in England, Viktor Gyökeres at Arsenal, did not want to be outdone. When they played a friendly against Dortmund, he reduced the deficit to 3-2 from the penalty spot. But it was only a consolation goal as Arsenal lost 3-2.
Arsenal will start the season at home against Coventry on August 21, and Liverpool will open away against Newcastle on August 23.
