Days time in the band was however short, he was recruited by the bassist Steve Harris in 1975. But the band's original lineup only lasted for ten months, and the group claimed that Day did not have enough energy and charisma to continue.

When I sang in Iron Maiden it was a new band that nobody wanted to see or hear, Day has said about his time there, writes Billboard.

Day himself claimed that he was involved in writing ”Strange world” on the band's self-titled album from 1980, and has said that it hurt him that the first song he composed was on a bestseller album – where his name was not included.

Paul Mario Day has later sung in the bands More and Wildfire and with the British glamrockers Sweet. More praises him as a beloved person within the British rock music.

In the 80s, Paul Mario Day moved to Australia where he also worked as a musician. He became 69 years old.
