It was in the European Championship qualifying match against the Czech Republic on 12 July 2024 that Paredes was shown a red card after a reckless tackle.

As a result, the European football association's (Uefa) disciplinary board gave the Barcelona player a two-match suspension. And according to Uefa's regulations, the suspension must be served in the same tournament.

The first match Paredes was suspended was the final European Championship qualifying match against Belgium. But the star has a match suspension left, which will be the match against Portugal.

The suspension will be served by the time of Spain's second group stage match against Belgium on Monday.

Paredes has started in several of Spain's latest matches and is a popular player with national team coach Montse Tomé.

The European Championship in Switzerland is played 2–27 July.
