According to the news site EU Alive and others, the Russian smelter in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, receives 480,000 tons of aluminum from Ireland annually - which is used, among other things, for the manufacture of fighter jets and rockets.
The exports come from the Irish Auginish plant, owned by Russian aluminum giant Rusal, which in turn is controlled by oligarch Oleg Deripaska.
Around 30 EU parliamentarians are now urging EU Foreign Affairs Chief Kaja Kallas and Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic to put a stop to the exports before Ireland takes over the presidency of the EU Council of Ministers from July 1.
Rusal also owns the Swedish aluminum smelter Kubal in Sundsvall.
