"We have contributed to the world and humanity in numerous areas and have been awarded an impressive number of Nobel Prizes. Unfortunately, we have not yet found a cure for the stupidity, ignorance and hypocrisy displayed by the Irish national team captain," the Israel Football Association wrote in a comment on social media.
It comes in response to this weekend's press conference with Ireland's Icelandic national team coach Heimir Hallgrímsson, ahead of the two countries' men's national teams meeting twice in a short period in Nations League football.
"We are playing against a genocide. We are playing against Israel, we are not playing with Israel," Hallgrímsson said, among other things.
Previously, the Icelander has questioned the fact that the international and European football federations Fifa and Uefa suspended Russia after the country's invasion of Ukraine, while Israel has escaped sanctions for the war in Gaza.
The first match between the countries will be played on Sunday in Debrecen, Hungary, with Israel as the home team. The return match a week later, which was due to be played in Dublin, has been moved to Serbia, where the match will be played behind closed doors.
